Long ago, an old bamboo cutter lived in Japan with his wife. They were poor, but they worked hard. Every morning, the man went into the forest, cut bamboo, and made baskets and cups from it. Only one thing was missing from their happiness: they had no child. One morning, a light suddenly appeared among the green stalks.
